Global digital camera shipments are only one eighth of what they were 10 years ago

2021-07-05
The Japan Camera Imaging Equipment Industry Association predicts that the global digital camera shipment may drop by 20% in 2019 to about 15 million units, only about one eighth of the peak in 2010. The performance of digital camera enterprises is not optimistic due to the extrusion of smart phones with improved camera performance. At present, the proportion of smart phones equipped with multiple cameras has reached 70%, and it is expected to reach more than 90% in 2023. Or the lowest level since 2001 (14.75 million units).
According to the report, the global shipment volume in the first 10 months of 2019 was 12.73 million units, a decrease of 20%, while the annual shipment volume may drop to about 15 million units, only about one eighth of the peak in 2010 (121.46 million units), or the lowest level since 2001 (14.75 million units).
The performance of digital camera enterprises is not optimistic due to the extrusion of smart phones with improved camera performance. Olympus will raise the price of replaceable lens by about 10%, Nikon will reduce the business cost by 50 billion yen, and the sales of digital cameras still show no sign of recovery.
It is reported that the ratio of smart phones equipped with multiple lenses has now reached 70%, and it will increase to more than 90% by 2023. And due to the continuous improvement of smart phone camera components and system optimization, it is more convenient to use than digital cameras, which must be another reason for the decline of digital camera sales.
Supply of digital cameras in 2018: in Japan, the supply itself decreased, but the supply of non reflective cameras increased, surpassing that of SLR cameras for the first time. Global supply decreased by 22.2% to 19.42 million units. In particular, the number of card machines decreased by 34.9% to 8.66 million, a significant decrease.
In Japan, the number of non reflective cameras increased by 8.6% over the previous year to 590000, surpassing that of SLR cameras (460000) for the first time. The supply of antireflective cameras has increased for two consecutive years. In the field of no reflexive cameras, Canon's entry-level machines perform strongly. Canon and Nikon will be launched after autumn respectively, and the high-end models equipped with large image sensors constitute the support. The total domestic supply of Japan was 2.84 million units, a decrease of 19.2% over the previous year.
From the world supply situation, card machines in Asia and Europe and other regions decreased significantly. The number of lens replaceable cameras, including SLR cameras and non reflection cameras, decreased by 7.8% to 10.75 million, surpassing card machines for the first time. The reason is that the camera function of mobile phones is constantly evolving. Compared with the SLR camera with changeable lens, the card machine is squeezed by the competition of mobile phones.
At the same time, the Japan International Association of camera and imaging equipment industries also released its supply forecast for 2019. It is estimated that the world supply will be 16.9 million units, a decrease of 12.9%, of which the card machines will be reduced by about 20%, maintaining a sharp decline. The domestic supply in Japan will be reduced by 10.7%, to 2.5 million units.
